1884, Hidalgo Medallion, 20c green, diagonal bisect (Scott 158a), diagonal half tied by a clear Sierra Mojada double oval on a neat buff cover to Monterey with a faint purple (private receiver's?) oval datestamp of Jul 4, 1886; the split is not tied across the cut, but, due to its position, it wouldn't have been; part top flap damage, otherwise Very Fine, with a 1981 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.

A scarce transitional multiple.
