A part-sheet of 95 stamps was purchased at the McLean, VA post office by a CIA employee for official Agency mail. Upon spotting the printing error, nine employees pooled their money, purchased a replacement sheet, and kept the error sheet. Each of the nine employees kept one stamp, selling the remaining stamps (including one damaged in the removal process) to Jacques Schiff, Jr. Of the original sheet's 95 stamps, only 93 sound examples have reached collectors. A second pane, known from a full plate strip of 20, has since been discovered (see, Linn's June 12, 2023).
