Daniel F. Kelleher Auctions, LLC Sale - 770

The Galen Harrison Collection of Prisoners' Mail of the American Civil War - June 14, 2022

We are both pleased and honored to have been chosen to bring to market the Harrison Collection of Prisoners’ Mail from The American Civil War. Mr. Harrison’s passion, pursuit and research in this field comprised many years of study. HIs book, Prisoners’ Mail from the American Civil War, (307 pages), is the mainstay reference for this historically captivating topic. Many items offered here are illustrated in that volume. With an astounding over 60 different various jails, camps, field hospitals, boats and others, spanning 244 lots, is a most comprehensive holding of this area. From the envelope addressed to Jim Brown dated just five days prior to his hanging, to the Gettysburg Field Hospital envelopes, to the many unique or scarcely known items offered herein, this sale will certainly generate serious interest. The stories told by each and every item listed herein are riveting and invite further study and research. Many items portray and bring to life the aftermath of the bloody battles of the Civil War, and their historic outcomes. The philatelic study of this seriously tumultuous time in our history is still surprisingly affordable for any collector’s budget. We trust that you will enjoy this as much as we did in preparing it for viewing. Good luck and we look forward to your participation.
