The rate was British Empire letter 1d per ½oz x4 + 3d registration. The 6d is scarce on any cover, let alone in combination usage. Ex Rod Perry; sold for $1035.

2328 PSE image1913 (Dec 19) usage of the very scarce Victoria 3d rose-pink Registration Envelope with boxed 'REGISTERED' to England with Kangaroos First Wmk 2d grey tied by largely very fine 'TELEGRAPH OFFICE/RIALTO' (Melbourne) cds with red/white 'RIALTO' R label alongside, London arrival backstamp, a couple of very minor blemishes. The rate was British Empire letter 1d per ½oz x2 + 3d registration fee. Ex Guy Linfield (sold for $1380) and Rod Perry: sold for $1438.

2330 c image1914 (Dec 15) tiny mourning cover to "Buninyong/Via Ballarat" with rare solo franking of Kangaroo ½d green Coil Stamp (with characteristic trimmed perfs at left) tied by neat Geelong Krag machine cancel, light soiling. A key item for Kangaroo collectors, being the only ½d coil franking known to us, enhanced by being a solo franking paying the ½d Printed Matter rate.

2332 c image1916 (Jan 19) envelope to Holland with 'Per RMS Makura' handstamp & Kangaroos 2½d, violet/cream censor label tied by superb 'PASSED BY/CENSOR, S.D.' double-boxed handstamp in rosine plus a largely very fine strike of the scarce 'PASSED BY CENSOR/31JA16/C.S' supervisor's cds, minor defects.

2333 long cover image1916 (Dec 13) long-format envelope to Switzerland endorsed "Late Fee" with KGV 1d red & 4d lemon (Cat $800 on cover) both with 'M' commercial perfin (unknown user) tied by bold 'LATE FEE/MELBOURNE VIC' cds, censoreed with 'PASSED' handstamp in violet on the face, 'ST CROIX/22.I.17/SUISSE' arrival backstamp, vertical fold not affecting the adhesives or markings & minor blemishes. The rate was 2½d per ½oz foreign letter plus late fee of a single rate of postage (ie 2½d), which was not reduced to 1d per article until 1922.

2334 cPSE image1916-17 Mail to Australian WWI Prisoners of War in Germany small group comprising envelopes with KGV 1d red solo frankings x3 and KGV 1d Postal Cards x2, to Cassel x2 (both with large circular camp censor cachet), Crefeld (no arrival markings), Dulmen or Gottingen then forwarded to Dulmen (both with 'Gepruft' censor cachets on arrival), one of the Postal Cards with Western Australian 'PASSED BY/CENSOR' boxed handstamp in blue and two of the envelopes with Sydney 'OPENED BY CENSOR' resealing labels, plus an unstamped picture postcard from Switzerland to an Australian POW at Friedrichsfeld bei Wesel also with camp censor cachet, a couple with minor blemishes. 2336 c image1918 Avis de Réception red/cream form with Third Wmk 2½d tied by 'TIGHES HILL/29AP1918/NSW' cds, 'WARATAH' arrival cds of the next day, minor wrinkles. Very scarce: forms inscribed for the various States remained in use until at least World War I. Forms were replaced by cards during the 1920s, so the period of use for one of these forms was no more than 10 years.

2338 PSE image1924 (Dec 19) usage of long format Registration Envelope Kangaroos 4d orange ACSC RE2 to "Baghdad/Iraq/Mesopotamia" uprated with KGV 1d green & 2d brown tied by Brisbane cds, red/white R label (torn before being affixed), Danushkodi (India) transit & 'BAGHDAD/REG/26JAN1925' arrival backstamps, minor soiling, opened-out for display. An excellent destination. The long Registration Envelopes were issued in 1913 but saw little use and were apparently withdrawn. They seem to have been re-released in the early-1920s. Sold at our auction of 25.3.2021 for $885.

2339 c image1930 (July 23) envelope endorsed "Printed Matter Only" to the Netherlands Indies posted on board ship with KGV 1d green tied by Batavia 'PAQUEBOT' boxed cachet (previously recorded in 1935 only) and Soerabaja 'VOLKSTELLING ...' slogan cds alongside, Batavia '25.7.30' transit on face where re-directed with 'WELTEVREDEN' boxed cachet in red at base, received there on the same day then re-directed to England a few days later, a couple of very minor blemishes.

MILANO CHIASSO/-1.9.35' TPO backstamps, at Cologne re-directed with 'SOBERNHEIM/3.9.35' arrival, a couple of minor blemishes. The rate was 1/9d + 1/8d for the second ½oz + 3d registration + 1d late fee.
