It is now reasonable proven that the date is 1853 and the writer made a mistake when he wrote the letter. An analysis by Frank Newton is enclosed. This along with the Sacramento Leutzinger type 1-23 are the earlies regular Wells Fargo handstamp and are both extremely rare. Estimate  $750 - 1,000. (Image1)
