The numeric graded does not do this stamp justice, the last time this stamp was sold at auction, it was described as, "Extremely Fine Example of the 10-Cent 1870 National Grilled Issue with Original Gum and Unusually Choice Centering." (Siegel Sale #829, Lot 368)nnIt is interesting to note that only two original gum examples have been graded by the P.S.E., this stamp and one other (85 J).

The 24¢ Grilled Bank Note is not known in unused condition, making it imperative for collectors aiming to complete their set Bank Note Grills to acquire this stamp in used condition. This specimen, characterized by its fresh color, distinct grill, exceptional centering, and light cancellation, stands as an exquisite example of this rarity in its finest attainable condition.nnBy way of comparison, the P.S.E. has graded a mere three examples in the grade of "XF 90", with none higher.

A BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1870 2¢ I GRILL. VERY RARE IN SUCH PRISTINE CONDITION.

For some reason there are no original gum, 1870 2¢ I. grills listed in the P.S.E. Population Report, despite the fact that we can find this and two other mint examples with P.S.E. certificates.nnOf the mint examples, one is graded VF 80, plus this and one other which are graded XF 90, this being by far the finer of the two.
