CRETE
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
3715 OGO   CRETE - BRITISH & RUSSIAN OFFICES COLLECTION. Well written up for the most part with meticulous notes on combination of stock cards and quadrille album pages on the different types with originals to forgeries to non-contemporaneous cancels, as well as a study on the different gums and papers, the British Post Offices focus on the genuine to the Genoa types to the lithographed, etc. There must be at least 120 of these from the 10 para both blue and brown through to the 20 para red and green. A similar pattern with the Russian Post Offices, as there are several dozen ending with a few imperfs of the maps, issued under the Therison Revolutionary types of 1905, usual mixed condition, mostly F-VF, would be difficult to assemble again, as most of the reference copies themselves are quite scarce.

CUBA

3716 OGO   19th CENTURY SPANISH CUBA, A SPECIALIZED AND UNUSUAL COLLECTION.Mint and used with plenty of postmarks, errors and reference for comparison purposes, anachronistically ordered on old album pages. Some of the many good items noticed include a block of 4 of #3 with attractive strikes, 2 blocks of 10 of #81 mint, representing both shades, #70 used as a bisect on large piece with blue concentric circle Anguera Driggs Y ca, October 18 1877 cancel, 80c French Ceres head with octagonal Cuba cancel, US military in Santiago, #91 duo with red fancy cancel etc. Also seen further bisects with fancy cancels, certificados, as well as a set of 5 of the 1896 French volunteers in Cuba. The collection ends with an excellent range of reference tête-bêche blocks of #16 and #17 with 30 and 20 examples, then blocks of 10 of the 1877, 1878 and 1879 with the 5c, 10c and 12c denominations present, etc. A collection that gets better and better upon each close inspection, thoroughly recommended.

CZECHOSLOVAKIA
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
3717 OGO   CZECHOSLOVAKIA, EXTENSIVE COLLECTION,One man's collection housed in 18 volumes including some postal history. A very interesting, diverse and exciting range of material filling up a two boxes including much non-Scott listed. Most of the albums are substantial, well filled and written up with much material outside the box. The same goes for the postal history housed in albums which is about a third of this. Interestingly, there is very little modern and in the same auction we have offered the loose postal history and stamps housed in glassines from the same vendor's estate. A thoroughly recommended viewing with huge potential here. This part has been valued by us at $150 an album across the board, many books clearly are worth multiples of that. An opportunity for a dealer or collector of this area.

2,000-2,500

SOLD for $1,800.00
Will close during Public Auction before Nov-01, 06:58 PM
3718 O   CZECHOSLOVAKIAN POSTAL HISTORY ACCUMULATION, A late entry filling up a large box with a very diverse range of postal history from the first issues onwards, virtually all bought individually over many years. This represents the 'work in progress' section, being the second half of a vendor's estate, the first being offered intact in albums also in this auction. It is very noticable that there is very little modern here among the several hundreds if not thousands of covers present, many would easily sell from $10++ to $50 each on eBay, huge potential notwithstanding the work needed to process this to best advantage. Also noticed occasional stamps in glassines, often better even a little Hungary m/s as well. A very meaty lot that will keep a dealer or collector busy for weeks.
