H.R. Harmer GPN, Inc. Sale - 3038

The Ing. Pietro Provera Collection of United States Stamps and Postal History Part I - December 8, 2020

Upon viewing the Provera Collection, it is immediately apparent that every single stamp and cover was specifically selected for its beauty. This was true when the collection first arrived at our office, and it is more true now as I flip through the first of two auction catalogues. Even the more “common” material is represented here in exceptional quality—stunning advertising covers, uncommon destinations, unusual cancellations. Every item in the collection had a purpose and a place. It was the work of a determined and methodical collector. Specific highlights include:?-1851 1c Blue Type 1b (#5A) pair on cover (positions 3-4R1E), sent from Apalachicola, Florida to Boston (Lot 520)?-1857 1c Blue  Type Ia (#19) on cover from Boston, described by Stanley B. Ashbrook as “a gem, and in my humble opinion, on a par with the Newbury cover and the Brooks cover” (Lot 540)?-1898 $1 Trans-Mississippi right margin arrow pair, NH and proof-like impression (Lot 684)
