1077 O 65 Image#65, 3c Rose, cancelled by complete fancy Running Fox, facing right with triangles surrounding, of Hockanum, CT (S-E #PA-D6), a marvelous bold strike of this exceedingly rare fancy cancel, stamp with insignificant small faults; 2011 PF certificate.

According to William J. Duffney, this cancel originates with Hockanum’s Postmaster Dudley Fox. Fox was a trained silversmith which explains the skills needed to carve this intricate cork cancel. It is believed that Fox would frequently carve new cancels as the design wore down. (Image)
