1430   imagePLATE 217 - A REMARKABLE MINT CORNER BLOCK OF TWENTY FOUR AA-DF with large part inscription "259/217 PRICE 1d Per Label. 1/- Per Row of 12. £1...Per Sheet Place the labels ABOVE the adrefs and tow" . Full original gum, some natural creasing. Excellent colour and of exhibition quality. SG £2,280 as singles. Note the block has a perforated top margin, this is an indication of the use of the Thomas Peacock (P.O. employee) invention of 1875 of the Continuous Variable Feed Motion apparatus which he had instigated the previous year. This speeded up the feed and alignment of sheets into the perforation machines. (Image)
