SHIP WRECK MAIL - USA-GERMANY - SS LORRAINE MAILS DAMAGED IN TRAIN FIRE FRANCE: July 1910 New York to Munich small env. (edge faults
from fire, stamps missing) originally carried to Le Havre by the SS Lorraine where the mails were transferred to a train. A fire broke out in the mail wagon which damaged the mails and a blue "Gerettet aus verbrannter / Amerikapost vom Dampfer / La

Amhurst Canada addressed to a German POW with "POST FREE" h.s. with part overstruck "RECOVERED FROM SS HESPERIA(N)" hs. The Hesperian was torpedoed by U20 and the attempt to tow her to a harbour failed and she sank; how the mails were recovered is
