"Le Havre / Seine Inferieure" transit cds (Aug 26) and London arrival adjacent (Aug 27). Struck in London with circular Eastern District Inspector's marking, perhaps testifying to the scarcity of early Haitian first issue covers coming in to London. 6081 image1881 (July 1): 5 c. yellow-green on greenish, plate I, imperforate, a used example with single 3 c. grey-bistre on bistre and 2 c dull violet, good to large margins all round, on circa 1881/82 single rate cover endorsed "von Gonaives" to Tonsberg, Norway, tied in transit by "VERVIERS / 8 10 4 / COELN" datestamp (Oct 8) applied on Ambulante No. 4. One of two known covers from Gonaives to this addressee (the other bears a pair of 5 cent), this being the sole recorded example of this particular franking. Royal Mail via Southampton" to Paris, France; good to large margins all round, tied by "Port au Prince" cds's (Aug 24) in black. "Calais a Paris" transit cds (Sept 13). The 5 c. pair has been torn from the cover, and later carefully replaced.
