Deficient Postage Lettersheet, director of Posts and Telegraphs letter and notification of deficient postage sent to Sydney, 5d entire canceled by bold "Granville, N.S.W. Aust., 25Jy, 62" cds, Very Fine, a very rare trial program notification lettersheet, with only a few examples known. Estimate  $300 - 400. In 1961 with the knowledge that the use of postage due adhesives would soon be phased out, the Sydney and Melbourne Directors of Posts and Telegraphs undertook a trial program to notify senders of postage deficient mail and of the correct current domestic rates. The hope was that the program would reduce the amount of postage deficient mail. The program lasted for only about a year and was determined that the improvements derived were not offset by the costs. (Image1)
