Cole" on reverse, with 2012 P.F. certificate noting stamp did not originate. Milgram No. 1396 Estimate $1,500 - 2,000. Although this is a well-pedigreed cover, the presence of the "Steam 5" due marking makes the 5¢ 1847 stamp superfluous and the red cancel does not match the New Orleans cds. We have estimated the cover appropriately. The "Uncle Sam" was built in 1849 and dismantled in 1859.We record only two examples of the "Uncle Sam" straightline stencil marking:1. Jan. 21, cover from Carroll Hoy correspondence to New Orleans La., 5¢ 1847 stamp doesn't belong, the cover offered here.2. 1852, folded letter to Saint Louis Mo. bearing 3¢ 1851 issue tied by stencil and "Steam" marking. ex Klein-Somdal.
