682 ogOp 162/179 #162/179, 1900 Siege of Mafeking collection of 43 used including a pair and a strip of three, nearly all are the various types of surcharges on stamps of Cape of Good Hope, Bechuanaland, and Bechuanaland Protectorate, some are on piece, and includes minor varieties of the settings, also includes two each of the 1d Sgt. Major Goodyear and 3d Gen. Baden Powell, also a stampless postage due cover from Mafeking to Bulawayo in July 1900 shortly after the siege was lifted, some faults are present but overall most are fine-very fine; a popular area and many are rather undervalued as no Mafeking value had an issuance of over 10,000 stamps and many in this collection had issuance's of 570 to 1,800 (S.G. #1-20). $6,955.00

692 ogc   image1923 10c-50c SCADTA Postal Stationery, cplt. mint for all five airmail items issued including 10c Green postal card, 20c Olive gray letter card, 30c Green and 50c Blue envelopes and 20c Olive gray letter sheet (H&G #F1, FA1a, FB1-2, FG1a), in addition there is a 20c Olive gray letter sheet Ecuador essay surcharged with gray black "Ecuador/Provisional/1 Sucre 1" overprint on this Colombian SCADATA letter sheet similar to the overprints applied to Colombian SCADATA stamps for the first 1928 air mail issues of Ecuador, with violet "Anulado" h.s. indicating its essay status, all are fresh and very fine; the SCADTA stationery is quite scarce mint or used and the essay is an unlisted item that was evidently proposed at the time the Ecuador airmail stamps were issued; it is purported to be the only known example. 693 c   imageIncoming 1839 folded letter datelined Harrogate Oct. 25, 1839, posted in York to the "Rev. R. B. Lyth, Friendly Islands, Care of Rev. Tho. McKenny, Wesleyan Mission House, Sydney New South Wales" from his sister, bearing red London "Paid" Tombstone and "Paid Ship Letter London" oval datestamp, both of "29 Oct. 1839" and backstamped Crowned oval "General Post Office Sydney/FE 26/1840." The letter was endorsed by Rev. Lyth who was also a surgeon "York Oct. 25: 1839 (received) Somosomo June 28: 1841 per Triton, (arrived from) Somosomo June 29: 1842" and "Mrs. Jackson" at right, with ms. rates of "P1/-" (red) and "3" (black) charged at Sydney.This palimpsest letter took 20 months to reach its destination and includes "We are still at a loss to know whether you still remain at Lefuka or if you have removed to to Feegie." An intriguing letter addressed to the Friendly Islands (Tonga) although the Rev. Lyth was in Fiji when this was delivered, trivial edge toning at right still very fine. (Image) Est. $1,000-1,500
