10c Black (2). Original
gum with very slight disturbance from hinge removal, large margins to just
in at top, bright shade and detailed early impression, usual light natural
gum creases FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE
10-CENT 1847 ISSUE. This stamp was hinged in the space for the 10c
1875 Reproduction (Scott 4) in a National album donated to The Western
Reserve Historical Society. Not only is it the original 10c 1847 (Scott 2),
but it has full original gum. It was probably "found" by an amateur
philatelist and misidentified (one of the rare cases in which the
discoverer chooses the least valuable option!). A great stamp and great
story. (Image) |
