347 c ImageGERMAN STATES, Prussia, 3sg Yellow Entire (Michel 19A). Indicia cancelled by perfectly struck red serrated boxed "Recomandirt" handstamp with boxed "Bromberg 6 9" (1860) datestamps at right and sent registered to De Kalb Mo., "Franco" and red "Charge" handstamps, Hamburg and New York transit datestamps, cover with professionally repaired tear at top and top right corner

EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. A STUNNING USE OF THE 3-SILBERGROSCHEN ENTIRE SENT REGISTERED TO A SMALL TOWN IN MISSOURI.

Interestingly, the entire only partially paid the rate. The additional 9sg was paid separately in cash as noted on the cover. This is also a remarkable destination use. De Kalb, Missouri, in 1860, had a population of only 308. The addressee, Hiram Roberts, was one of the original settlers to this town in 1836 (one year before the county was open for settlement). The county was originally named Roberts County, after him, before changing to Buchanan County (after James Buchanan, then a U.S. Senator and later President) in 1839.

With 1993 Brettl certificate. (Image)
