Dateline on two-page folded letter to Mr. Philander Hanford in Peck Slip N.Y., neat "SHIP" handstamp and manuscript "20-1/2" rate, missing top part of outer lettersheet which affects the address, expertly silked, fascinating contents from a whaler who discusses trip around Cape Horn and touched on Hawaiian natives "I cannot find words to express my astonishment at the sight of so many naked beings, for they wear nothing but a sheaf of what they call tapper (?) (made from bark) around their loins", some ink erosions and splitting, still an interesting early letter from a whaler passing thru Hawaii, typed transcript accompanies (Image)
