Lot Sym. Lot Description
2396 og ImageLONG ISLAND, 1916, 6p Blue on Thin Wove Paper (SG 36). Huge bottom margin plate no. "/3" strip of four, positions 21-24, without gum as issued, lightly stained from improper stockbook housing

STILL FINE AND EXCEPTIONALLY RARE AND UNIQUE PLATE NO. 3 MULTIPLE OF THE 6-PENCE BLUE ON WOVE PAPER. A MAJOR LONG ISLAND RARITY.

Only two sheets of 24 were printed, leaving the possibility of two plate numbers - this as the sole recorded example as Plate 2 is not recorded. According to H. Pirie-Gordon, one sheet of remainders was destroyed. This must not be the case as there are Plate 2 examples known and a block of twelve in the British National Postal Museum. Gibbs records 37 examples recorded with this as the only known strip of four. SG value as singles (Image)
