VERY FINE APPEARING EXAMPLE OF THE EXTREMELY RARE "NTER" NUMERAL ISSUE PLATE VARIETY.

As an indication of rarity, the Honolulu Advertiser collection contained only two examples of the "NTER" variety on Grayish paper (both Position 4, Plates 3-E and 3-F), while the Pietsch collection contained one stamp from Plate 3-F (later offered by us in our Twigg-Smith sale, Sale 931, realized $5,500 hammer) and an enigmatic example from Position 7 on Plate 3-E. We also offered one in our Sale 1090, which came from a pre-WWII collection and had been off the market for 70+ years.

The "ISLANI" variety is found on Plate 3-F (Type III, Position 1, and Type V, Position 5) and Plate 3-G (Type X, Position 10). It was caused by the semi-circle of D” failing to print. Very few are known and it is unlisted in Scott (Image)

Power Search contains a number of covers with the 2c on grayish paper, but none on grayish white.

EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1859-63 2-CENT HAWAIIAN NUMERAL WITH MISSING PERIOD AFTER "CENTS". THIS IS THE FIRST WE HAVE OFFERED SINCE KEEPING COMPUTERIZED RECORDS.

None was offered in our Honolulu Advertiser, Aall, Drucker, Twigg-Smith, Golden or other major collections of Hawaii that we have handled. None was offered in the Pietsch sale.

With 2002 H.P.S. certificate declining opinion and 2002 P.F. certificate stating "it is genuine". Listed but unpriced in Scott (Image)
