Postmasters Provisionals: Rheatown Tenn. thru Talbotton Ga.
Lot Sym. Lot Description
3201 ng ImageRheatown Tenn., 5c Red (69X1). Position 2 in setting, Type II with distinctive inverted ornament at top right, unused (no gum), ample to large margins all around, bright color, faint vertical crease

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE UNUSED EXAMPLE OF THE RHEATOWN POSTMASTER’S PROVISIONAL.

Our records of the Rheatown provisional have long listed one unused single, one unused pair, three used singles, one pen-cancelled single on a dated piece and six singles on covers. However, this single comes from the unused pair we previously listed, which we now understand was broken by Jack Molesworth in the 1980's. The left stamp from the pair, offered here, was sold to the current owner by Molesworth immediately after the pair was broken. Therefore, according to our records, there are no more intact pairs of this issue, either unused or used.

With 1976 P.F. certificate for a pair, this the left stamp (Image)
