2355 ogbl ImageSOUTH WEST AFRICA, 1923, £1 Red & Green, Pair, Setting II, Without Period after "Afrika" (15c; SG 15a). Block of four with gutter selvage at left, error occurring on the left stamp in the top pair (Position R 6/1), top pair with h.r. and some sensible hinge reinforcement, bottom normal pair is Mint N.H., fresh colors

VERY FINE. AN INCREDIBLY RARE ERROR ON THE 1923 ONE-POUND VALUE ONLY FOUND IN SETTING II. FEW EXAMPLES STILL REMAIN AS PAIRS.

It is believed that no more than 40 examples of this error exist. We suspect that far fewer still remain as pairs and even less so as blocks such as this.
