3354   Image3c Blue, Re-Issue (125). Rich color and proof-like impression, neat strike of New York City datestamp and duplex oval grid cancel, slightly toned, light corner perf crease at bottom left

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE USED EXAMPLE OF THE 3-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL RE-ISSUE. ONLY FIFTEEN ARE RECORDED IN OUR CENSUS.

Our census of Scott 125 in used condition, available at our website at http://siegelauctions.com/dynamic/census/125/125.pdf , contains only fifteen copies. An example on cover was offered in the 1956 Caspary sale, but its current whereabouts is unknown. Of the fourteen other used copies, only three are confirmed as sound, but one has a straight-edge and the other has never been certified. Two others need to be examined to determine soundness. The example offered here, with no obvious flaws, is very desirable.

Census No. 125-CAN-09. Ex Mayer. With 1982 P.F. and 1994 P.S.E. certificates. (Image)

3355   Image6c Blue, Re-Issue (126). Choice centering with well-proportioned margins, radiant color on bright paper, face-free cancel at lower left

VERY FINE AND CHOICE USED EXAMPLE OF THE 6-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL RE-ISSUE.

The 6c is the one of the rarest of the set in used condition. SMQ estimates that approximately 30 exist in used condition, and our own informal count concurs.

Ex Dr. Morris and Mayer. 1991 P.F. certificate no longer accompanies. With 2006 P.S.E. certificate (VF 80; SMQ $3,000.00). In our opinion, this deserves a VF-XF 85 grade, if not XF 90. (Image)

3356   Image10c Yellow, Re-Issue (127). Vivid color as fresh as the day it was printed, bright paper, unusually choice centering with wide and balanced margins, well-struck New York City "5" numeral oval grid cancel

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS SUPERB USED EXAMPLE OF THE 10-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL RE-ISSUE IS EASILY ONE OF THE FINEST IN EXISTENCE. THIS STAMP HAS BEAUTIFUL COLOR, WIDE MARGINS, A PERFECTLY-STRUCK CANCEL AND TREMENDOUS VISUAL APPEAL.

SMQ estimates that approximately 30 used examples are known. We estimate that between 30 and 50 are known used. However, it is surprisingly difficult to obtain in such superb condition.

Ex Natalee Grace. With 1991 and 2012 P.F. certificates (XF-Superb 95) (Image)

3358   Image12c Green, Re-Issue (128). Incredibly rich color and proof-like impression, almost perfect centering with well-proportioned margins, neat strike of New York City "2" oval grid cancel and part of duplex datestamp

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB USED EXAMPLE OF THE 12-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL RE-ISSUE. A DIFFICULT STAMP TO FIND IN SUCH SUPERB CONDITION, AND EASILY ONE OF THE FINEST IN EXISTENCE. THIS REMARKABLE STAMP HAS BEEN GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E. -- THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AND THE ONLY ONE TO ACHIEVE IT.

The 12c 1869 Pictorial Re-Issue is the second rarest of the set in used condition (the 3c is the rarest). The Rose book estimates 15-25 extant used copies, and SMQ estimates 20 extant. It was the only used 1869 Re-Issue denomination in the Zoellner collection that was accepted with a small fault.

Ex Tahoe and Merlin. With 2001 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $15,000.00). This is the highest grade awarded and the only example to achieve this grade. (Image)
