VERY FINE. A COLORFUL FRANKING FOR THE 57-CENT RATE TO SHANGHAI, CHINA, BY BRITISH MAIL VIA MARSEILLE. ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE WITH STAR OF DAVID FANCY CANCELLATION.

We have encountered very few covers to the Far East with fancy cancellations. This cover from New Haven to Shanghai with the New Haven Star of David cancel is similar to another from New Haven to Bangkok with 24c and 30c 1861 stamps and the same cancel, which was last offered in our 1974 Rarities sale (Sale 448, lot 63, 30c and 24c stamps).
