VERY FINE AND CHOICE. AN EXTREMELY RARE ORIGINAL-GUM BLOCK OF FOUR OF THE 2-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL RE-ISSUE.
This is the first block of this issue we have offered since our 1998 Zoellner sale.
With 1998 P.F. certificate (Image)
VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE USED EXAMPLE OF THE 3-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL RE-ISSUE. ONLY FIFTEEN ARE RECORDED IN OUR CENSUS.
Our census of Scott 125 in used condition, available at our website at http://siegelauctions.com/dynamic/census/125/125.pdf , contains only fifteen copies. An example on cover was offered in the 1956 Caspary sale, but its current whereabouts is unknown. Of the fourteen other used copies, only three are confirmed as sound, but one has a straight-edge and the other has never been certified. Two others need to be examined to determine soundness. The example offered here, with no obvious flaws, is desirable.
Census No. 125-CAN-04. With 1989 A.P.S. certificate. With 1970 and 2000 P.F. certificates, the latter mentioning the reperfing. (Image)
FRESH AND FINE. A SCARCE USED EXAMPLE OF THE 6-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL RE-ISSUE.
The 6c is the one of the rarest of the set in used condition. SMQ estimates that approximately 30 exist in used condition, and our own informal count concurs.
