15c Dark Blue, Die Essay on Light Scarlet Safety Paper, Type 10 Underprint (129-E9). 28 x 28mm, horizontal underprint, deep rich colors, tiny translucency at top, appears Very Fine, ex Earl of Crawford and Kuphal, the Scott listings for Nos. 129-E4, 129-E5 and 129-E9 are inconsistent and should be revised, the first two are the same underprint (Brazer and Rose Type 11) and differ only in horizontal vs. vertical orientation and intensity of the shade -- as such they should be combined into one listing as is done with other types, for No. 129-E9 (lots 140-142), Scott lists neither the underprint type (it is Brazer and Rose Type 10) nor two of the known vignette colors, it should be changed back to No. 129-E4, which was at one time its Scott designation (Image)
