EXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS IS WITHOUT QUESTION THE FINEST EXAMPLE OF THE 1875 2-CENT CONTINENTAL BANK NOTE COMPANY SPECIAL PRINTING IN EXISTENCE. A PHENOMENAL STAMP IN EVERY RESPECT.
Our recently updated census records for Scott 168 contain only 56 copies certified as genuine. Of these, there are 28 with perforations all around. However, only seven of these are confirmed as sound -- many of the others have not been examined in decades. Of the seven confirmed sound copies, only two have decent centering -- the example offered here and one from our 2007 Rarities sale. A third centered copy needs to be examined for soundness, so at most there are three sound and centered copies with intact perforations.
Unpublished Census No. 168-UNC-38. Ex Engel and Cole. With 1942 A.P.S. certificate. With 1958, 1988 and 2002 P.F. certificates. (Image)
VERY FINE AND CHOICE. THIS IS THE FINEST EXAMPLE OF THE 1875 3-CENT CONTINENTAL BANK NOTE COMPANY SPECIAL PRINTING CONTAINED IN OUR RECORDS. A PHENOMENAL STAMP IN TERMS OF PERFORATIONS, MARGIN SIZE, COLOR AND OVERALL FRESHNESS.
Our recently updated records for Scott 169 contain 35 examples that have been certified as genuine by the Philatelic Foundation (including one on cover). Of these, only four have perforations all around and are confirmed as sound. Of these four, one has perforations touching on one side, one has a part imprint (ex Whitman) and one shows the plate number but perfs just touch at right. There are no other potentially sound and centered examples of this issue, this leaves just this stamp and the ex-Whitman copy as the only two with perforations all around in sound condition where the perfs do not touch the design.
Unpublished Census No. 169-UNC-02. Ex Caspary, Hetherington, Klein and Zoellner. With 1957 and 1998 P.F. certificates. (Image)

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS IS EASILY ONE OF THE FINEST EXAMPLES OF THE 10-CENT 1875 CONTINENTAL BANK NOTE COMPANY SPECIAL PRINTING IN EXISTENCE. A PHENOMENAL STAMP IN EVERY RESPECT.
Our recently updated census records for Scott 172 contain 36 certified examples. A majority of these have been scissors-separated into the perforations on at least one side. Of the eleven copies with full perforations, most have either pulled perforations or are not centered. Only four qualify as having decent centering, one of which was offered in our 2005 Rarities sale.
