Flown cover bearing U.S. 16c Air Mail Special Delivery stamp and 3c TIPEX stamp used with Russian stamp, tied by "Moscow 26.9.36" circular datestamps, with purple cachet, New York backstamp, signed by pilot Levanevsky and copilot Levchenko, some inconsequential edgewear, Very Fine and rare, only a small handful known, a similar flown example sold in our Sale 1011 along with a non-flown example for $7,000 hammer, accompanied by two original letters from the U.S.S.R. embassy in Washington stating this was a test flight for scientific research purposes and that almost no mail was carried, also accompanied by newspaper article about the flight with photograph of the pilot (Image)
