1949   imageCollateral material (Waterbury, Ct.), one cover and two letters signed by John W. Hill former postmaster at Waterbury CT. Cover with small red double circle Waterbury Con Feb 22 1862 town marking and franked with single 3¢ tied by black grids, addressed to Saugatuck Conn. This cancel was used prior to Hill becoming postmaster. The two letters were written by John Hill in response to questions about his cancellations. They are in his handwriting and are datelined "Jan 15/19" and "1st Mch 20". Each letter mentions that his memory is a little fuzzy, but also that the design of the cancels were a result of impulse and not the result of a pattern. They are a terrific collateral for a Waterbury cover collection, Very Fine, rarity RRR - less than 9 examples known, ex- Boyarsky.
