93   image1865, "Johnson's Box" labels, complete set of six labels with types I, II and III in green and red-orange (the type II green is unlisted by Springer), couple of small flaws, a fine and rare complete set of these unusual labels; according to the Springer catalog, McElroy's Philadelphia directory of 1865 lists J.H. Johnson as a stationer at 7 N. 10th Street, Johnson issued these labels in connection with his "Free P.O. Box", and the design was apparently issued to honor the martyred president; as with the previous lots their status is uncertain., Fine to Very Fine.

94   image1867, EKU of compulsory prepayment of 20¢ registry fee, 3¢ rose (65) tied by target cancel and Ypsilanti, MI duplex, Jul 3, 1867 to Woodland, MI, fee 1861 issue 10¢ green (68) pair tied by target cancels, the earliest known usage with manuscript "Registered, No. 1" and the registry fee paid with stamps, the 20¢ fee went into effect on June 30 1863 but prepayment with stamps was not compulsory until July 1, 1867, a great piece for the 1861 issue, early registered collector; slight staining at lower left and minimal perf faults do not detract from this unique cover, Fine.
