5800 /   imageFRANCE, The Twentieth Century Balance. Mint, nearly complete collection in two Scott Specialty albums, the Regular Issues and Commemoratives running to 1977, the Semi-Postals, Airmails and Back-of-the-Book to 1998; the only missing stamps of any substance are the 2fr violet, 10fr & 20fr Mersons (126, 131, 132), the 1923 Bordeaux Philatelic Congress overprint (197), the 1927 Strasbourg Exhibition sheet (241), the 1929 Havre Philatelic Exposition overprint (246), the 5fr + 5fr 1917 War Orphans (B10), the 1928 Ile de France Surcharges (C3-4), and the two 1936 50fr Airmails (C14 & C15); also included are virtually all of the Red Cross booklets except the 1930 "Smile of Reims" (B34b). As for condition, the 1925 Interpex souvenir sheet (226) has some marginal problems and the 1930 20fr Pont du Gard die II (254) has a pulled perf, but otherwise, as far as we could tell, everything is F-VF with NH beginning about 1961 but also with plenty of NH scattered throughout the 1950s. A truly tremendous lot. Our Scott value was calculated figuring hinged stamps from 1935 onward at 50%.
