1024   imageCivil War Era Letters, Union & Confederate. Group of five including 1.) a soldier's letter written Jan 16, 1861, after four states had passed Ordinances of Secession, opining that the secessionists "will soon give it up as a bad job" and embellishing his last of two pages with patriotic cartoon drawings including Jefferson Davis being hanged as a traitor and the slogan "fight for the union forever and never surrender" and 2.) a 4-page, well-written Southerner's letter from "near Columbia" [Texas], Feb 2, 1853, with excellent war-related content; also includes an Official cover endorsed "Hdqs Forces of Red River, OB", apparently carried by courier to Major J.L. Brent, Chief of Artillery & Ordnance in Bashear City, La., docketed "Ord. Reports, Mouton's Brigade"; and a reproduction of a C.S.A. Virginia Election Ticket for Davis/Stephens, Nov 6, 1861; condition somewhat mixed but generally Fine and interesting.
