1977 /o/   imageAustria, Interesting Collection Balance. Box full of stamps, covers, picture postcards and documents, loose or on album pages and stocksheets, with the emphasis on pre-1930 material including Bosnia & Herzegovina; Austrian stamps include mint #71a in an never hinged block of 64, never hinged blocks of #117a-120a (25h separated), J45 and used #39, 127, B87-92, B132-137 and much, much more; collateral includes an 1804 Birth Certificate with tax stamps & wax seal, a 17 July 1855 edition of "Wiener Neuigkeits=Blatt" [Vienna News Sheet], and original signed G. Wimmer artwork (about 9" x 11") for a proposed 1947 Semi-Postal issue for a Czech Stamp Exhibition in Austria [which never took place], with Wimmer's notes on reverse. A truly fascinating lot, with lots of little hidden gems.

Assortment of approximately 450 die proofs, each printed individually on glossy paper, and with Ministry of Posts embossed seal in the margin. We noted many better such as 1934 (B151), 1941 (B281-92), 1941-42 (B305-14), 1942-43 (B332-43), 1943-44 (B360-69), 1952 (435-45 & B514), 1946 (CB1-2), 1947 (371-72), 1947 (373), 1947 (B437-41), 1947 (B442-46), 1948 (B455-58), 1948 (B460-61), 1948 (374-85), 1955 (482-84), 1955 (488-93), 1955 (B573-78) & 1955 (B579-85). Balance of a powerful collection in three Davo hingeless albums (no back-of-the-book); starts with lovely mint examples of #1-2 (Scott $5,250); 3a, 6, 7, 8 (Scott $2300) and continues with solid 19th century including #13-18, 20-21, 25b, 26b, 33, 35, 36, 38, 46, etc.; 20th century includes 82-102 & 124-137, while the Semi-Postals are fairly complete for the period, loaded with value, including very lengthy runs of set, the souvenir sheets are nearly complete, additionally a high percentage of the sets & souvenir sheets are never hinged, and condition, with very few exceptions, is clean and Fine to Very Fine. 1996 /o/   imageBelgium, Collection of Stamps & Postal History of World War I. In two three-ring binders, Volume I starting with a couple of colorful patriotic picture postcards and several military labels issued in the 1914-16 period, 1912 (92-102 x2, mint & used, plus several imperforate trial color proofs), 1919 (136-37 mint, plus a registered cover with complete set), 1914 Belgian-French Solidarity Vignettes, 1914 (B25-27 imperforates), Belgian Government in Exile several attractive covers that deserve your attention, 1918 semipostal set (B34-47) tied on sheet by Diplomatic Conference July 15, 1920 circular datestamps. Volume II with a rare Yser Front military cover sent in 1915 from Alveringhem to Calais, plus 1918 censored cover to NY, including an interesting letter in English written by a soldier, followed by two picture postcards sent in 1925, and depicting Ypres before and after the wartime shelling, and then by several unused colored picture postcards depicting soldiers on the front and some showing the German atrocities against Belgian soldiers and civilians. We also noted a fair number of picture postcards showing the destruction of cities caused by the war and many sent by British soldiers from fieldpost offices, 1916 censored cover with Belgium 108-09 & 111-19, from St. Addresse sub-postoffice at Le Havre to the Reverend Stather, who was ministering to wounded English soldiers at the Hospital of the British Expeditionary Force. An intoxicating holding which will be a pleasure to view, mostly Very Fine.

2000 o   imageBelgium, Parcel Post Cancels, 1879-94. Marvelous collection of more than 600 stamps of the first two Parcel Post issues, sorted by town in a large stockbook; nearly all ate the hexagonal type and nearly 200 of them are First issue (1879-82). Since all were collected for cancellation, there are, naturally a few flaws, but generally condition is clean and Fine to Very Fine.
