Mounted on twenty-four written up pages with 44 covers; comprising 35 covers with Alsace-Lorraine Occupation stamps (single & mixed frankings), including destinations such as Austria, England, Germany, Holland, Switzerland & United States, plus different places in the Occupied Zone. We also noted four stampless free-franked official covers, and three with German-made cachets four use at provisionally occupied mail distribution centers and two with franco "F" datestamps used in Strasbourg & Metz in prepaid unstamped bulk mail. A wonderful opportunity for the postal historian of this interesting collecting area, Fine to Very Fine.

Mounted on eight exhibit pages with thirteen covers & three postcards, including eleven stampless covers with Feldpost datestamps or showing manuscript "Feldpost". Better noted include folded letter to Nancy with Alsace-Lorraine 10¢ bistre-brown points up, tied by blue "K.PR. FELDPOST-RELAIS No. 13/ 4/12" circular datestamp, which is repeated alongside, 1871 cover with previously unrecorded magenta "FELD-POST-AMT/ ARMEE-CPS 28/5" circular datestamp, plus some covers from Baden, Bavarian & Wurttemberg regiments and two slightly different feldpost cards: one with "K.PR. FELDPOST-RELAIS No 10/ 13/9" circular datestamp, other with "K.PR. FELDPOST-RELAIS No 7/ 21/10" circular datestamp. We also noted a folded letter from French POW via a relief agency in occupied St. Louis (Haut-Rhin). 1063   imageFrance, Prewar & War in Alsace Mail Exhibition Collection, 1870. Mounted on fifteen exhibition pages with 19 covers, two newspapers, two cards and an interesting postal courier's routing, showing transmittal of mail during the Siege of Metz. The collection starts with six covers from Alsace-Lorraine dispatched in the January to June, 1870 pre-war period, followed by two newspapers properly franked with 2¢ stamps, and then by eight covers sent in the July to November, 1870 war period, including civilian mail and free-franking military examples. Also couple of stampless covers with French "Armée du Rhin" markings, Red Cross card from the Auxiliary Committee of Strasbourg, Prussian Feldpost card from Agny (Moselle) to Colberg, plus presumably balloon cover dispatched during the Siege of Metz. An unrepeatable lot that deserves your attention, Fine to Very Fine.

Mounted on seventeen written up pages with 35 covers, and presented by rate periods: A) February 15 to March 24, B) March 25 to July 31, C) August 1 to 31 & D) September 1 to December 31, 1871. We noted nine covers with mixed frankings (France & Alsace-Lorraine), six with France stamps & postage due markings, and twenty with Occupation stamps & postage due markings. Mounted on ten exhibition pages with 23 covers & two postal cards, including 21 with French frankings, and sent to occupied, unoccupied or unannexed destinations. We noted two 1871 stampless folded letters: one from Darney, other from Cornimont; both to unoccupied France and showing a "P.P." boxed handstamp, indicating that no French stamps were available, 1871 folded letter with France 5¢ & 20¢ stamps dispatched on September 1, 1871 (First Day of increased letter rate), 1876 postal card with 15¢ Ceres, tied by rhombus of dots numeral "177" corresponding to Givonne (used before the war in Ars-s-Moselle, and known as the "remplacements d'Alsace-Lorraine), 1872 full of character folded letter franked with 5¢ Napoleon III x5, sent from Algeria to Muhlhausen. A nice holding that can be easily integrated into a bigger collection, Fine to Very Fine.
