Unusually clear strike ties 10¢ brown (150), rich color, on blue 1871 folded letter to Langnau, Switzerland, red "New York Paid All Oct 31" exchange cds, carried as endorsed on Hapag Line Holsatia that arrived at Plymouth on Nov. 10th 1871, reverse with Bern (11.13), Basel (11.13) and partial Langnau arrival, Very Fine, Illustrated in Weiss NYFM on page 148, ex-Weiss, with 1987 P.F. certificate.

1302     ST-8P4 imageEight-Point Star Geometric. Beautiful sharp strike cancels 1¢ postal card (UX3) to Hamburg, Germany, red "New York Aug 29" exchange cds, Hamburg (2.9.1874) arrival cds, this card was underpaid 1¢ for the 2¢ postal card rate to Germany but was perhaps accepted as printed matter even with a neatly handwritten message, an unusual use, Extremely Fine and superb strike.

Saturday mails were shared between Inman Line and White Star Line. On Saturday, July 4, 1874 it was reported that the New York Foreign Mail department delivered transatlantic mail to the Inman Line "City of Paris". This steamer arrived at Queenstown on July 13, 1874. This is a very late use of ST-MP3.
