1082 PC P1 image1878 1c Post Card Mailed with a Glued Attachment, a P1 1c Queen Victoria domestic postcard mailed on MAR.2.1878 from Fredericton, NB to St John, NB (MAR.4 receiver on back). The back of the card has a pre-printed message from Vivian W. Tippet titled "New Postal Laws". The message probably got outdated, and the same company glued a new message titled "Insolvent Act of 1875, and Amending Acts". 1085 PC P2 image1882 Montréal to Bow River, N.W.T. Through the United States, an "Allan Line Royal Mail Steamers / Live Stock From Britain..." advertising back card mailed from Montréal on APR.14. (1882 year on back) to Bow River, North West Territories (now Calgary), with Winnipeg transit c.d.s. on back dated APR.18.1882. Because at this point the Canadian Pacific Railway had not been completed, the card would have had to travel via Windsor, St. Paul, Winnipeg and Fort Benton, Montana, all by stage coach. 1087 PC P2 image1877 2½c Rate Post Card to Germany, mailed from Winnipeg, Manitoba on JUN.22.1877 to Hamburg, Germany, with JUL.17 receiver on front. The 1c card is uprated with a 1c Small Queen and a ½c Large Queen, paying the ultra rare 2½c card rate to Germany, in effect from April 1, 1877 to August 31, 1878. Very fine, and one of only two known such rated cards (the other, illustrated on the cover of Steinhart's book, is overpaid by 1c). Priced at $4,000 in The Posted Letter Guide, and illustrated and described on page 51 (full page) of Early Post Cards 1871-1911 by George B. Arfken. 1090 PC P2 image1876 Post Card Re-Directed to Newfoundland, originally mailed from Montréal (no postmark but printed mater on back suggests) to St John, New Brunswick, received there on SEP.21.1876, then postmarked at Halifax on SEP.22 on its way to St John's Newfoundland. Back has a printed notice for a Montréal Brewers' Material outfit. 1091 PC P2 image1892 Twice-Used Post Card; Mailed to Austria then Re-Used, P2 1c card originally mailed from Hamilton Ontario (FEB.27.1892) to Berlin Ontario (same day receiver). A short while later, on MAR.20, the card was mailed from Elora Ontario to new recipient in Austria, with a 2c and 3c Small Queen added, both tied by concentric ring cancels. A most intriguing card, illustrated and written up in Arfken's Early Canada Post Cards 1871-1911.

1098 PC P5 image1885 Riel Resistance Soldier's Card in the Field, written at Dog Lake, Ontario (headlined) at the end of the CP Railway track to Whitby (APR.7 receiver) through Biscotasing, Ontario (APR.4 transit is one of two known examples of this hammer, post office opened on JAN.1.1885), forwarded to Toronto (APR.7), with APR.8 carrier handstamp alongside. The card was written by a soldier, and is the only item of postal history known from the westward overland force in Canada. The message side reads "Dog Lake 1.4.85 / You will see by the heading where we have got. We have 12 miles to go then by rail then take to sleighs for 40 miles travelling all night then take to the rail again. We have had a good time so far the scenery is splendid and wild. We can't get any news from Toronto + don't expect to t'ill we reach Winnipeg. We have just received marching orders and lead the column. The 26th are on the same train the 10th on another. LHD". Second card was mailed in 1893 with a 1c Small Queen and passed without penalty even though it was larger than the UPU size limit. Third card, with a photograph attached to the back, was uprated 1c SQ but was charged double deficiency (3c = 6c = 5d). Bit of soiling, still an overall very fine trio.
