3393 c   LIBERIA 1843/46 MISSIONARY CORRESPONDENCE. A group of six letters (most with accompanying unfranked envelope) witrh five written by or for a Thomas Wilson, a Presbyterian minister in Liberia from 18434/46, and addressed to Walter Lowrie (Secretary of the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions which coordinated missionary activity in Liberia) in NY City and a 6th letter written by his daughter. Letters detailing Wilson's various travels through the country, getting "acclimated", commentary on living conditions and the spiritual and physical condition of the natives, medical problems with his own family being affected by fever (malaria) and the death of family members, river flooding destroying crops, etc. The sixth letter (Jan 1847) written by Wilson's daughter informing Lowrie of Wilson's passing, survived by five daughters, some usual degradation from aging but a Fine and poignant correspondence.
