United States Revenue Stamps continued...

1871-1874 Proprietary Stamps continued...
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
1841 O RB7a image#RB7a, 10c Green and black on violet paper, an extraordinary used example in a quality that is next to impossible to find on these exceedingly difficult Proprietary stamps, featuring perfect centering amid extravagantly large margins, strong colors (even the central vignette) on bright paper, beautifully struck c.d.s. cancel dated 1888, extremely fine; a true rarity in this gem quality; 1991 PF certificate; ex-Joyce and Lyons. (Image) 175.00

Closed or SOLD for $850.00
Closing..Oct-25, 05:00 PM
1842 O RB8a image#RB8a, 50c Green and black on violet paper, an incredibly choice used example of this challenging stamp to find in premium condition, featuring absolutely flawless centering amid uncharacteristically large margins, exceptionally rich and strong colors (even the central vignette) on bright fresh paper, wonderfully cancelled with a five-line "Starkey & Palen/May/19/1880/O.T. Phila." blue handstamp, accompanying certificate mentions a "faint diagonal crease at bottom right", which is nothing more than a faint bend, and considering this stamp is typically found quite faulty, this inconsequential bend does not detract from this otherwise extremely fine gem; 1999 PF certificate. (Image) 500.00

Closed or SOLD for $1,300.00
Closing..Oct-25, 05:00 PM
1843 O RB9b image#RB9b, $1.00 Green and black on green paper, a magnificent used example of this incredibly rare and notoriously difficult stamp to find in any kind of collectable quality, in fact, of the mere seven certified copies in existence, this is the only one that is completely sound, the other six examples have faults ranging from small tears and thins to faded vignettes, this extraordinary example from the Floyd collection features strong rich colors and is quite well centered, plus it has a light and unobtrusive manuscript cancel, very fine; one of the great rarities of the entire sale, not only in terms of number known, but condition as well; 1990 PF certificate; ex-Lyons. (Image) 6,000.00

Closed or SOLD for $11,500.00
Closing..Oct-25, 05:00 PM
1844 O RB10a image#RB10a, $5.00 Green and black on violet paper, a magnificent quality used example of this popular revenue rarity, possessing numerous remarkable physical attributes which are rarely found on this normally faulty and poorly centered stamp, beginning with its outstanding overall freshness, with gorgeous intense colors and prooflike impression on immaculate paper, wonderfully well centered and margined (centered just slightly to the right as are most examples), especially neat and unobtrusive manuscript cancel, completely free of the flaws which affect the vast majority of known copies, extremely fine; of the mere 74 issued of the Five Dollar Proprietary stamps on violet paper, this is one of the finest in existence; an immensely rare stamp in this incomparable quality; even the legendary Morton Dean Joyce collection did not have a #RB10a of this caliber; 1966 PF certificate. (Image) 6,500.00

Closed or SOLD for $10,500.00
Closing..Oct-25, 05:00 PM

Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
1845 ogbl RB16c image#RB16c, 5c Black, rouletted, a spectacular mint bottom sheet-margin "National Bank Note Co." obliterated imprint block of five of this rare and terribly difficult stamp, brilliantly fresh, prooflike color and impression on bright paper, each stamp is quite well centered and without any of the faults that affect virtually every known mint copy, full clean o.g., couple of trivial h.r.'s to reinforce some minor roulette separations, extremely fine; not only the largest recorded multiple, but also containing probably the five finest known mint examples of this stamp; one of the premier revenue showpiece rarities; mint singles of #RB16c are unpriced in Scott (used singles, which are far more common, catalog $1,500.00 each), when a mint example with full o.g. makes an appearance on the auction market it typically realizes $3,000.00 to $3,500.00 each and, of course, no mint multiples are listed or priced in Scott; ex-Joyce. (or with h.r. in selvage only), the 20c and 40c blocks are extraordinarily choice (one 20c with small thin spot), overall very fine; quite possibly the only complete set of plate blocks of this series in existence; ex-Wampler.
