65 c 65 image#65, 3c Rose, tied to an exceptionally attractive and unusual Civil War patriotic cover by strong "Williamsport/Md/Dec 6" c.d.s. to Pittsburg, Pa, the patriotic design in red, white and blue is of an attractive Eagle and Shield inscribed "Love One Another," bordered by 34 stars with the name of each state including all the Confederate states, what adds a particularly unusual character to the cover is that the red portion of the design is printed on the inside of the cover causing an attractive Eagle and Shield design to ghost through in the address area, a very unusual affect, very fine. 75 c 71, 78 image#71, 78, 30c Orange and 24 Lilac, both with excellent color and tied to attractive 1865 cover addressed to Hong Kong by bold four-bar grid as well as the red "London/Paid/JY 8 65" transit c.d.s., also on the front are two bold red rate handstamps "48" and "1d", on the reverse across flaps is a clear "Boston Br. Pkt./Paid/27 Jun" foreign exchange marking and backstamped Hong Kong, but in addition there is a pencil docketing "Rec. Aug. 29 65/Nagasaki" indicating that it was privately forwarded to the recipient in Japan, includes eight-page enclosure, small mend to the right side of the cover not affecting the stamps or markings, otherwise very fine; the 54c franking was a 1c overpayment of the British mail rate to China via Marseilles; a rare and colorful usage.
