1006 og/nhO   French North Africa and Middle East valuable and highly desirable specialized collection balance to about 1960 comprised of many thousands of items in mounts, identified and housed in three well filled Yvert albums, all areas are strongly represented, there are mint and used singles, the used mostly 19th and early 20th century issues, the overwhelming majority of the collection being mint, in addition the collector had a penchant for the multitude of both major and minor varieties and errors which makes French Colony collecting so interesting, and these are found in prodigious quantities throughout the collection, additionally, the collection is further enhanced by a plethora of imperforates, proofs, trial colors, essays and the like, with most being the more desirable pre-1950 issues, plus there are quite a few interesting covers to be found throughout, while we have removed most of the rarities this collection is absolutely loaded with items that catalog €50 to €500 or more in Yvert or Maury, also unusual is the overall very high quality of the material as the collector was very particular about what he added to the collection, while there is the occasional small fault, toned perf., etc. the collection is overwhelmingly o.g., l.h., n.h. or used, fine-very fine; this is a very impressive collection balance, certainly the largest and finest we have ever hand the pleasure to offer, a careful viewing, while a pleasure, is a task for which sufficient time should be allowed, especially considering the very substantial total catalog value. 1008 c   French Oceania postal history collection of 165 covers or cards from 1825 to about 1940, plus 25 mint postal stationery entires and three proofs mounted on pages and housed in three binders, the collection starts with 1825 folded letter from Otahita to Portland Maine (missing half of address panel), 1834 folded letter from Bora Bora to London via India, rare 1838 folded letter to London, being a missionary report from Maiaviti in the Society group written in the native language, and 1863 folded letter from Papeete to France, most of the rest are franked with adhesives, including three French Colonies general issue forerunners, frankings by "Tahiti" overprint and other provisional issues, multiple and colorful frankings, many registered usages, some nice paquebot cancels, postmark types, and small town cancels including Afareaitu, Atuona, Fare, Taravao, Taiohae, Vaitape and Vaitepaua, some typical cover faults, most are fine-very fine.
