986 ogc   Spanish Civil War Republican political labels extensive collection of many hundreds of items issued from 1936-39 by a wide range of organizations from the Red Cross to Anarchists, including issues by help and propaganda organizations, political parties, anarchists, trade unions and other social economic organizations, military and para-military organizations, the Generalitat and other autonomous governments, youth organizations and miscellaneous issues, all in mounts on Alan Leveritt pages in three Scott albums, includes singles, sets, souvenir sheets, sheetlets, booklet panes and booklets, blocks and multiples, errors including imperforates, quite a few unlisted items and 30 highly desirable covers bearing these labels, including two franked solely by souvenir sheets, some better items by 1988 the F. Gomez-Guillamon catalog (which is included in this lot) numbers include #1559, 1560, 1562-65, 1681, 1749d-58d, 1814, 1840, 1901b, 1902-03, 1907-10, 1936, 1958-61, 1963-65, then 2053, 2554 and 2557 on one railroad cover, 2054, 2086, 2087a, 2151-54 (set of six), 2156-62, 2190a-96a, 2356, 2411-12, 2471a-75a, 2471d-75d, 2476, 2593 pane of 20, 2593 and 2609-13 se-tenant strip to name some, usual variable condition but much nicer than usual, many o.g., l.h. or n.h., others without gum, some faults or off center as is typical, largely fine-very fine; a wonderful collection that took Mr. Florence considerable time and effort to assemble. 987 c   ImageJulio Restat correspondence covers remarkable collection of 72 items displayed on stockpages in a binder and showing a wide range of interesting Nationalist and Republican Spanish Civil War frankings, including complete sets, souvenir sheets, multiples, scarce issues, errors and mixed country frankings, each cover is accompanied by a description and has been conservatively retail priced anywhere from $50.00 to $1,500.00, with most in the $200.00 to $750.00 range and five at $1,000.00 or more, there are a great many better items present, including the earliest known cover to Restat of the Spanish Civil War period, all are addressed to this exiled Chilean priest at the Chilean consulate in Paris, a few minor faults, nearly all very fine; only two other collections of this caliber are known to exist; marked prices total $24,870; accompanying this lot is a copy of the 2003 bilingual book by Juan Javier Negri on Restat and his correspondence which mentions Dennis Florence and includes many photographs of items in his collection.
