4536 imageOverprinted on India at the Zanzibar Gazette 1895/96: India 3 r. brown & green overprinted, an unused example of excellent colour showing variety "Slanting "B" in British", fresh and fine, large part og. The slanting "B" variety is the initial state of "Double B, one slanting". It appears that the "B" in British failed to print due to loose type, the "B" having fallen out of the overprint forme. The "B" here probably applied by hand but in a slanting position (the 5 r. value was later corrected by the application of a further "B" in the upright position. That the two varieties occur in the same position can be confirmed by the constant variety "Broken left foot to the "A" of Africa. A splendid stamp and entirely unique Gi = £ 8'500.rnrnProvenance: Collection Arthur Hind, Harmers, London, 11-14 June 1934, lot 42; Collection A. Beaucham,p Vialou; Collection Col. J.R.
