India 1855 cover front from Sir Henry Havelock to his wife in Bonn, Prussia, vis Marseilles (Mar 11), bearing 4a imperf, head I frame I, 1st printing, each cut-to-shape paying the ship postage to Alexandria and 1a red imperf die I x 2, paying the internal postage.
Sir Henry Havelock was associated with recapture of Cawnpore during the mutiny in 1857. He also took part in the First Anglo-Afghan war in 1839. This letter was written soon after he was appointed Adjutant General, India in Nov 1854. $1,000-1,200 (Image)
