RED OVERPRINT: 'G.T.' on Rouletted 2d bright vermilion, rouletting on three sides & carelessly cut from the sheet into the design at the base, on plain OHMS cover with indistinct Diamond-Numeral '71' cancel & superb 'GOOLWA/JA18/70/S.A' cds alongside, to "Thos Millner/accountant/engineer in chief/Adelaide", superb 'STRATHALBYN' transit & GPO arrival cds of the same date, vertical fold at left & minor blemishes on the reverse. The stamp is rated RRRR, making this one of the rarest Departmental frankings. Ex AE Fryar: offered there with one of only two Engineer covers, the two being sold for £9 (!): see Lot 294. The only recorded 'G.T.' cover in Anthony Presgrave's Census.

RED OVERPRINT: 'C.T.' Error of Lettering on Rouletted 6d dull ultramarine, rouletting on all sides, significant fault & light staining both at lower-left, indistinct cds. Unlisted by Ron Butler & the only recorded example so it should be rated RRRRRR. [The 'C.T.' error has also been recorded on the 1/-, in the Sir George Murray collection. It could yet be discovered on the 1d 2d and 4d]

BLACK OVERPRINT: 'G.T.' on De La Rue Crown/SA Wmk Rouletted 2d red-orange with the Watermark Reversed, rouletted on all sides, large-part unframed 'PO[RT W]A[KEFI]ELD/ JU4/1871/S.A' cds. A very rare & remarkable usage. Rated RRR+.
A 46km horse-drawn tramway was built by the government between Port Wakefield on St Vincent's Gulf to Hoyleton on the Burra in the 1860s but was privately run until the end of 1870, when the government resumed control. This is the only recorded example of a 'G.T.' stamp used on another tramway.
