1852 (12 Apr) entire letter carried privately from Merrefontein addressed to Hector Lowen, captain of the Yeomanry at Bloemfontein, no markings. Note - Merrefontein was in the Philippolis District and it had no post office. The letter was presumably carried privately, but as noted on the top of the letter was received on 14 April 1852, two days after being written. It was probably carried to Philippolis and then on to Bloemfontein. (Image)
