bank cover to Belleville with next day receiver, one can imagine the exasperated clerk or secretary having to cut the sheet apart 'one-by-one' to frank letters, quite a conversation piece and very rare on cover as most were discarded. Ex -

(partially remaining manuscript information indicating it may have been sent from a '(W)harf' in the '(Harb)or'), with 1999 Greene Foundation certificate stating "... Partial copy used on portion of cover, genuine but contrary to postal regulations",

then handed to the wrong addressee and roughly opened (damaging the stamp), with manuscript notations 'not called for' and 'opened in mistake by B. I. Hales', returned from Apsley 2 JU to the Dead Letter Office where it was received 4 JU, the cover
being mended and an OFFICIALLY SEALED LABEL applied over the opening, returned to sender with next day DLO dispatch on back, a fascinating and rare usage of this early seal entirely of front of the cover. Ex - 'Lindemann', Brigham. (Image) (imagea)
