Lot 2637 - 1868 Imperial Journal 1K blue, Newspaper Tax stamp inscribed 'MAGY.KIR.HIRLAP BELYEG' imperf, issued for the Austro-Hungarian Empire Military Border district only (now in Croatia). Superb fresh M with original gum, 4 large margins, nice deep colour. Mi ZIII. SG J3. Sc PR2B cat US$50,000. Great classic rarity of the world with only less than a dozen recorded of which most are used, and only several mint examples being in existance. Worldwide Public Auction - September 5, 2024

Auction 391 has 3,534 lots, catering for all types of collectors & dealers - from bulk accumulations and intact collections to desirable single items. This auction offers a huge range of material, with special emphasis on lotting stamps to cater for collectors with varying types of interests and budgets. Items range from $30 to $90,000 so there's something for everybody. This auction offers strong representation of Australia & Colonies, strong British Empire material of all areas & periods, as well as General Foreign including small and large collections. There are almost 350 lots of Australian Collections (Lots 59 -395) and almost 500 lots of World collections (Lots 396-885).

Following on there is over 950 lots of Australia which consist of singles, sets and covers including Australian colonies (Lots 886 -1834). The Australian lots cover all periods, from the Kangaroo issues up to Decimal and contains numerous number of mint & used £1 & £2 top values. This auction includes a Third Watermark £1 Chocolate & dull blue, perf small OS, varieties 'missing shading lines between left frame & coast' plus significant 'MISPLACED Kangaroo'. Superb fresh MUH with pristine never hinged original gum. SG O52(var). And the major misplaced Kangaroo variety would also be worth premium over normal, as only several examples are recorded. The nicest quality recorded genuine example of this major rarity.(Lot 992). There are 1,700 lots of World stamps, covers and single country collections (Lots 1835 -3534). Numerous other rarities in the British Empire, USA, European, The Americas and Asia including PRC China.
