1772 *0 GERMANY & COLONIES - SUPERB COLLECTION Germany as unified national state came into being while postage stamps were in its infancy, thus the history of German philately reflects the history and development of Germany, and considering just how central Germany was events of the 20th century in Europe - German stamps tell the story of an entire continent. This is a fascinating, extensive collection of roughly 10,000 different mostly mint issues (very high number of sets have parallel mint & used sets) housed in three Scott Specialty albums. The collection is put together with true philatelic passion for completeness and detail as Germanic history is traced form the early period German States to the early 1990s when Germany was reunited once again. It is hard to overstate the quality of the collection as it includes virtually complete Germany proper with the regular section and back-of-the book covered in great detail including the expected high value sets like the Numeral and Post Horn issues from 1951-52, complete semi-postals to 1990 (700), but most importantly complete run of highly prized semi-postal souvenir sheets form the 1930s including #B58 & B68 (catalog value $2,300 just for those two!), complete airmails with Zeppelin overprints and so much more. German offices abroad and colonial issues are among the most desired subsections of German philately and this collection boasts impressive sections within the collection as the former adds up to just under $15,000 in catalog value (including standouts like Offices in Morocco #7-19A, (catalog value of the set $2,643!) Offices in Turkish Empire #1-6, #13-24B, !) while the colonial subsection is close to $12,000 in catalog value. Similarly this collection covers in great detail issues of individual states, plebiscites, occupations alongside beautiful collection of Germany proper, GDR and Berlin issues.
