Postal Stationery
Lot Sym. Lot Description
244 c Image1c Blue on Orange Wove Star Die wrapper, Die 9 (W22; UPSS 40a). Knife W1A, watermark 0, 151 x 144mm (reduced but with flaps that nearly meet each other on back), unused, deep rich color

FRESH AND VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE ONE-CENT BLUE STAR DIE WRAPPER ON ORANGE PAPER.

The UPSS Catalog reports fewer than ten of this rare Star Die wrapper exist. The "Scarsdale" Collection contained only a full corner and that is the only example in any format we have offered since a full-size example in our 2007 "Saddleback" collection.

With 1997 P.F. certificate. UPSS value $8,500.00 (Image)

245 og Image1c Blue on Blue, Die 83, Full Corner (U299; UPSS 893). 36 x 45mm, clear watermark 12 which distinguishes this from UPSS 894, beautiful complementary color and paper, strong embossing slightly breaks the paper in Franklin's head

VERY FINE. A RARE FULL CORNER OF THE ONE-CENT BLUE ON BLUE ISSUE, SCOTT U299.

The 2018 UPSS catalogue reports five or fewer entires exist, though this is significantly higher than all reported numbers we have heard before. In addition, Porter Venn records two full corners, two cut squares and an entire with "Specimen".

Ex Cole, Dr. Summers, "Scarsdale" and Cook. With 2000 and 2013 P.F. certificates not noting the trivial paper breakage from the die impression (Image)

246 og Image2c Green on Amber Manila, Die 87, Full Corner (U310; UPSS 922). Unused, 38.5 x 42mm, vivid color, trivial tiny gum spot above "P" mentioned for accuracy and not noted on accompanying certificates

VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT PLIMPTON ON AMBER MANILA PAPER. ONLY ONE ENTIRE AND THIS FULL CORNER ARE KNOWN IN UNUSED CONDITION. ONE OF THE GREATEST POSTAL STATIONERY RARITIES.

The 2018 UPSS catalogue records only one mint and one used entire. This is believed to be the only unused full corner, and no unused cut squares are known. There are perhaps four or five used cut squares known.

Ex Meisel, "Scarsdale" and Cook. With 2006 and 2013 P.F. certificates. Scott value as cut square (Image)
