2260   ImageE. W. Hoyt & Co., 1c Black, Silk Paper, Imperforate (RT6b). Large margins including huge sheet margin at top, beautiful fresh shade and deeply etched impression, faint vertical crease and tiny thin in the far top of sheet margin, both of these flaws are inconsequential

EXTREMELY FINE. A SUPERB AND EYE-CATCHING EXAMPLE OF THE RARE E. W. HOYT & CO. IMPERFORATE ONE-CENT BLACK ISSUE ON SILK PAPER. ONLY EIGHT ARE RECORDED IN THE ALDRICH CENSUS.

We have sold only one sound example. Nearly every copy extant has a crease or other faults.

2261   ImageE. W. Hoyt & Co., 1c Black, Pink Paper, Imperforate (RT6c). Large even margins all around, sharp impression on deep Pink paper, two faint creases which are barely noticeable

EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE RARE E. W. HOYT & CO. IMPERFORATE ONE-CENT BLACK ISSUE ON PINK PAPER. ONE OF THE FINEST AVAILBLE. ONLY EIGHT ARE RECORDED IN THE ALDRICH CENSUS.

The Aldrich book records only 8 examples, which we assume includes the block of four offered in the Joyce sale. That would leave only four singles available to collectors.

2262   ImageE. W. Hoyt & Co., 2c Black, USIR Watermark, Imperforate (RT8d). Large even margins including part of imprint at right, crisp impression on fresh paper, mild vertical crease, appears Extremely Fine, highly desirable, 32 are recorded in the Aldrich book, we are aware of two blocks of four and a pair, so that would leave only 22 singles available, of those many have truncated side margins (Image)

2263   ImageE. W. Hoyt & Co., 4c Black, Silk Paper, Imperforate (RT10b). Large even margins all around, well-incised impression on bright paper, faint vertical crease

EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. AN OUTSTANDING EXAMPLE OF THE RARE E. W. HOYT & CO. IMPERFORATE 4-CENT ISSUE ON SILK PAPER. THE FINEST WE HAVE OFFERED.

The imperforate on silk paper is the rarest of the 4c Hoyt issues, with only nine recorded in the Aldrich book. Two-thirds of those recorded have faults. The Joyce sale contained a block of four, so perhaps only five singles are available to collectors. We have offered only two others since keeping computerized records. Both had light creases and neither were as well-margined as this example.

With 1997 P.F. certificate (Image)

2264   ImageE. W. Hoyt & Co., 4c Black, USIR Watermark, Imperforate (RT10d). Large margins all around, sharp impression, two creases that the accompanying certificate notes are "small and light"

EXTREMELY FINE. AN ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE EXAMPLE OF THE E. W. HOYT & CO. 4-CENT IMPERFORATE ISSUE ON WATERMARKED PAPER. ONE OF THE FINEST AVAILABLE.

This is the finest example we have offered at auction. Every previously offered copy also has creases -- usually more severe than on this example. This stamp possesses the largest and most balanced margins of any we have sold. The Aldrich census records 18 and notes 11 with faults (though the number of faulty is almost certainly higher).
